Did you know that The League offers an Electrical Engineering program? Students start with a fun 6 session workshop and can continue to regular weekly classes if they wish to continue.

Best suited for 8th-12th graders with fundamental understanding of Algebra.
NO JAVA EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Workshop
This workshop is ideal for students who are interested in pursuing a career in Electrical Engineering, those who want to learn more about the subject, or students who want to learn more about the inner workings of computers. Workshop students will design a circuit board that will be manufactured with their name etched on it! At the conclusion of the 6-sessions they will solder on elements and create a blinking board.

FIRST WEEK OF WORKSHOP:

We think this program is so cool that we are offering the first session of the workshop for FREE!
When: Saturday 11/3 1:00-3:00pm
Location: Carmel Valley Suite 107
Size: limited to 8 students

SESSIONS 2-6 OF WORKSHOP
When: Sat 11/10 through Sat 12/8, 1:00-3:00pm
Location: Carmel Valley Suite 107

Cost of Full Workshop (sessions 2-6) : $360 (includes materials fee)

On-Going Class Information
Students will gain a high level understanding of electrical engineering and its subfields, electronic components, AC and DC electronic circuits, multimeters, Ohm’s law, common units of electricity (Volts, Ohms & Amperes), digital logic, schematic capture, printed circuit board layout, through-hole and surface mount parts, soldering and debugging. This will be a hands on class where students will get the opportunity to design and construct their own simple devices.

Schedule: Workshop students attend daily for 5 days, Monday through Friday. Students must then attend one additional session (the following Friday) to collect their completed hardware.

Workshop Description: This exciting workshop will expose students "to the metal". During this workshop, students will acquire basic Electronic Technician skills and learn about Electrical Engineering as a career. Students will learn about electronic components, AC and DC circuits, schematic capture, volt-ohm-milliampere meters, oscilloscopes, through-hole and surface mount parts, environmental considerations, soldering and printed circuit layout and fabrication. In order to make this fun and interesting for kids, this will be a hands-on workshop with students practicing the skills learned. The challenge-based workshop includes design and construction of a simple device and encourages a growth mindset that requires building the students’ confidence in themselves as problem solvers.

Students who complete this prerequisite workshop can apply for entry to the ongoing series of League EE classes.
